[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Dongguk Lee] Pohang City and the Pohang Sustainable Development Council held a commemorative ceremony on the 3rd at Songdo Solbat Urban Forest to mark the 27th Environment Day under the theme "Only One Earth, Carbon Neutral Green City! Pohang, the Special City of Environmental Hope."

The event began with a congratulatory performance titled "Let's Achieve Carbon Neutrality Together," followed by awards for contributors to carbon neutrality practices and local environmental preservation, a reading of the carbon neutrality practice declaration, and a carbon-neutral green city performance with citizens.

Additionally, side events included various experiences to promote the culture of carbon neutrality practice, such as a proper recycling booth, zero waste shops, No Plastic activities, a climate change photo exhibition, a zero-emission vehicle display, and geological tours in collaboration with the Geopark, offering citizens diverse opportunities to see and experience firsthand.

Mayor Kang-deok Lee stated, "Living in an era where environmental preservation is essential for human survival, small actions become a great force in creating a low-carbon green city. I hope Environment Day serves as an opportunity to once again reflect on the importance of environmental conservation and practice." He added, "Pohang City will also establish mid- to long-term greenhouse gas reduction goals and action plans tailored to regional characteristics this year to realize '2050 Carbon Neutrality.'"

Environment Day was established to commemorate the "United Nations Conference on the Human Environment," held in Stockholm, Sweden, on June 5 of that year, during the 27th United Nations General Assembly in December 1972. In South Korea, it has been designated as a legal commemorative day since 1996, with annual ceremonies held every year.
