Damyang-gun Holds the 67th Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony

Memorial Tribute to Patriotic Martyrs and National Heroes at Gwan-eo Park Hyunchung Tower Plaza

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Chunsu] On the 6th, Damyang-gun, Jeollanam-do announced that it held the ‘67th Memorial Day Commemoration Ceremony’ at the Gwan-eo Park Memorial Tower Plaza.

This commemoration ceremony, under the theme “Thank you. We will not forget the sacrifice of the national heroes,” was attended by about 300 people including the county governor, heads of veterans’ organizations, the chairman and members of the council, national merit recipients and their families, heads of institutions and organizations, students, and public officials to honor the sacrifice of the patriots and national heroes who made today’s Republic of Korea possible.

The ceremony proceeded in the order of the national anthem, a moment of silence at exactly 10 a.m. for the patriots and national heroes, flower offering and incense burning, commemorative speeches, recitation of memorial poems, and a roll call of heroes sung again.

On that day, the County Resident Welfare Division opened the Chung-hon Hall all day and supported smooth flower offerings and incense burning for the families of veterans.

County Governor Choi Hyung-sik said in his commemorative speech, “Together with the residents, we will never forget the patriotism and spirit of sacrifice of those who gave their lives for the nation and the people.”

He added, “We will strive to build a Veterans Hall on nearby county land along with the Peace Art Park, scheduled for completion in 2023,” and stated, “We will develop the Peace Art Park and Veterans Hall into a complex space accessible to everyone with experiential programs and youth job training so that our historical freedom, peace, and democratic spirit can naturally be passed on to the younger generation in daily life.”
