[Asia Economy Reporter Jang Sehee] A teenage male who posted online that he would carry out a terror attack on President Yoon Seok-yeol's residence has been apprehended by the police.

On the 4th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul announced that they arrested A (19) in the early morning in Geoje City, Gyeongnam, on charges including intimidation and are currently investigating him. A is a first-year university male student and has admitted to the entire course of the crime.

During the police investigation, A stated that the motive for the crime was "posting the message out of dissatisfaction with the president not fulfilling his campaign promise to pay soldiers a monthly salary of 2 million won," adding that "it was a means to express personal dissatisfaction." According to the police, there are no confirmed backing organizations, accomplices, or other planned crimes.

On June 2, A posted a message titled "Terror attack on Yoon Seok-yeol's residence at exactly 6 a.m. on June 3" on the Naver 'Geonsarang' cafe, a fan club for First Lady Kim Geon-hee.

The post included content such as "I am a 21-year-old male university student who took a leave of absence because the military salary was supposed to be 2 million won, but it turned out to be a waste of time." It also contained negative remarks about Kim Geon-hee, the wife of President Yoon. A citizen who saw the post reported it to the police around 2 a.m. the previous day. Subsequently, the police deployed a special forces team and a violent crimes unit to the president's residence.

A police official stated, "We will continue the investigation, and after the inquiry is completed, the suspect is expected to be released."
