Deployment of Water Cleaning Vehicles on 17 Major Arterial Roads; Increase Watering Volume by 10% During Heatwave Warnings for Focused Preparedness
[Asia Economy Reporter Jongil Park] On the afternoon of the 3rd, when the daytime temperature exceeded 30℃, marking the hottest day of the year so far, water trucks sprayed water around Bomun-ro in Seongbuk-gu to cool down the urban heat.
With the Korea Meteorological Administration forecasting an "unprecedented heatwave" this summer, Seongbuk-gu (Mayor Seungro Lee) is making every effort to reduce road heat islands. The district is focusing on high-pressure water spraying road cleaning during the summer season on 17 major arterial roads, side streets, and alleys to prepare for the heatwave. Along with the watering operations, road surface and dust removal work are coordinated to improve air quality and prevent heat-related illnesses among citizens.
A district official stated, "In the event of a heatwave warning in the future, we plan to increase the amount of water sprayed and take proactive measures against heatwave forecasts, providing a pleasant road environment to enhance residents' quality of life."
