[Asia Economy Reporter Jong-il Park] Nowon-gu (Mayor Oh Seung-rok) announced that the "Rice Planting Experience Event with Madeul Nongyo" was held at the rice farming experience site in Madeul Neighborhood Park at 11 a.m. on the 3rd.

This event was prepared to provide elementary school students and residents with an opportunity to experience rice planting together, which is usually difficult to experience, and to learn about Nongyo (farmers' songs) and traditional culture ahead of Mangjong (June 6).

Mangjong is the ninth of the 24 solar terms and means the appropriate time to sow seeds of bearded grains like rice. Traditionally, rice planting is done during this period.

In particular, the 'Madeul Nongyo' presented at this event is a song sung by farmers to boost their spirits while farming in the Madeul Great Plain area of Nowon before it turned into an apartment complex area. It is designated as Seoul City Intangible Cultural Property No. 22.

The event was attended by Mayor Oh Seung-rok, elementary school students, and residents, and proceeded in the order of a pre-event program consisting of Madeul Nongyo, street parade, and Gyeonggi folk songs, greetings, and rice planting experience.

Mayor Oh Seung-rok said, "The rice planting and Madeul Nongyo performance provide memories and nostalgia for the elderly and a good opportunity for children to learn about traditions that are gradually disappearing and being forgotten. I would like to express my gratitude to the Madeul Nongyo Preservation Society, who work hard to preserve our traditions, for organizing today's event."

Jungnang-gu (Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi) conducted an eco-friendly campaign in daily life to practice carbon neutrality on the afternoon of the 3rd to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Environment Day.

The campaign held at Bongsudae Park, under the theme "The Only Earth," raised awareness of the seriousness of the climate crisis and emphasized eco-friendly practices to reduce the use of disposable plastics in daily life.

Local environmental organizations, including the 2050 Carbon Neutral Practice Living Jungnang Citizen Practice Group, Jungnang Housewives Environmental Volunteer Group, Jungnang Living Environment Practice Group, Central Environmental Monitoring Association Jungnang Branch, and National Environmental Protection Movement Jungnang Branch, also participated to encourage the reduction of disposable product use by distributing reusable shopping bags and other activities.

In particular, experiential programs such as making eco-friendly natural soap and upcycling flowerpots using coffee grounds, conducted by the Jungnang Housewives Environmental Volunteer Group, attracted great interest from residents.

Mayor Ryu Gyeong-gi of Jungnang-gu said, "Through this environmental campaign, I hope residents recognize the importance of environmental protection and practice it together starting from small parts of daily life. We will continue to promote various projects to enhance residents' environmental sensitivity and foster eco-friendly practices."
