Kim Mi-kyung, elected as the mayor of Eunpyeong District in Seoul for the 8th term of the local government, expressed her gratitude upon winning.
Kim Mi-kyung, the mayor of Eunpyeong District, running as a Democratic Party candidate, was confirmed elected with 51.76%, ahead of Nam Ki-jung of the People Power Party by 3.53 percentage points in the 8th nationwide simultaneous local elections. Her second term as mayor will begin on July 1.
Mayor Kim said, “I was away for over a month due to the election. Now that I have returned to work, I will focus on the livelihood of the people and accelerate the development of Eunpyeong,” expressing her commitment to the 8th term administration.
From the first day of her election, Mayor Kim began her first steps by visiting local residents to express her gratitude.
Mayor Kim stated, “I will fulfill the 30 promises across five key areas that I pledged during the election process, and I will do whatever is necessary for the development of Eunpyeong,” revealing her aspirations.
The five key areas announced by Mayor Kim are ▲‘Eunpyeong as a New Economy and Transportation Hub’ ▲‘Eunpyeong Where Anyone Wants to Live’ ▲‘Eunpyeong Good for Raising Children’ ▲‘Eunpyeong as an Inclusive Welfare City for All’ ▲‘Eunpyeong as a Representative City of Culture and Arts.’
The 30 promises are the pledge projects promoted within these five key areas. Representative examples include ▲early commencement of the extension of the Shinbundang Line to the northwest ▲early start of the Western Light Rail and establishment of Sinsa Gogae Station on the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line ▲expansion of SOC facilities in five major living zones ▲and establishment of a high-quality public childcare service called the ‘Eunpyeong-style Care System.’
Mayor Kim emphasized, “This result is the victory of the great residents of Eunpyeong who demand the development of Eunpyeong,” adding, “I will never be complacent and will once again prove that your choice was right.”
She continued, “Currently, there are many major projects underway in Eunpyeong. I believe the reason residents chose me is their hope for the successful completion of these projects and continuous regional development,” and said, “Please watch over me as I repay you with good administration. I will run solely for the development of Eunpyeong and the happiness of Eunpyeong residents.”
