[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Seunghyun Jeong] Kim Won-i, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, shared his reflections on the June 1 local election for the mayor of Mokpo, Jeonnam.

On the 2nd, Kim posted on his Facebook, “I was not chosen by the citizens in the Mokpo mayoral election,” and expressed, “I feel a heavy responsibility for failing to read the steady flow of public sentiment,” pledging to “be reborn anew.”

Kim expressed sincere appreciation to candidate Kim Jongsik and party comrades for their hard work and extended congratulations to the elected Park Hongryul.

He continued, “Despite harsh challenges, all Democratic Party-affiliated provincial council members and 17 city council candidates were elected,” expressing gratitude, and added, “In the newly starting council, I will take to heart the message that all members should renew their spirit and develop Mokpo through checks and balances, communication, and harmony with a strong sense of responsibility.”

Meanwhile, Democratic Party candidates for Mokpo city council announced a reform plan for the city council as an election pledge through a “Promise to the Citizens” event held on the 25th of last month in the front yard of the Kim Daejung Nobel Peace Prize Memorial Hall, pledging their commitment to new legislative activities for Mokpo city council.

The key points include the establishment of a Citizen Ethics Investigation Committee, the introduction of a comprehensive evaluation system for legislative activities, and the promotion of live broadcasts of council activities.
