[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] Korea National Oil Corporation conducted a plogging activity around Samgilpo Port coastal road to commemorate Sea Day on the 30th of last month and Environment Day on the 5th of this month.
Plogging is an environmental protection campaign that involves picking up trash while jogging to protect both health and the environment.
A total of about 70 participants, including employees from the Oil Corporation's Seosan and Pyeongtaek storage bases and women’s association members from Hwagog-ri, Daesan-eup, Seosan-si, Chungnam, collected approximately 2,000 liters of various household waste such as plastic bags and disposable masks while walking around Samgilpo Port coastal road.
Considering the nature of its business in marine resource development, the Oil Corporation selected the ‘KNOC Plogging Relay’ campaign as part of its ESG management.
Since March, the corporation plans to carry out environmental cleanup activities sequentially every month from Ulsan as the starting point, involving nine storage branches and the headquarters until October this year.
Park Soon-gil, head of the Seosan Storage Base of the Oil Corporation, who participated in the environmental cleanup activity, said, “The plogging activity provided an opportunity to contribute even a little to marine environmental conservation,” and added, “The corporation will continue to show greater interest in marine environmental protection and carry out volunteer activities continuously.”
