Cultural Heritage Administration, Traditional Techniques Training for Cultural Heritage Restoration

On the 3rd, the Cultural Heritage Administration announced that it will provide education on traditional cultural heritage repair techniques in the Seoul and Gyeonggi areas until October 16. The courses include fifteen subjects: Daemok (master carpenter), Somok (joinery), wood carving, processed stonework, stacked stonework, stone carving, Beonwa (tile work), Korean-style plastering, Ondol (underfloor heating), painting, embroidery, gilding, traditional landscaping, measurement and design assistant, and framing. The training focuses on practical exercises to cultivate skilled cultural heritage repair technicians?artisans who directly repair cultural properties on-site. In the past, these skills were passed down through apprenticeships, but the tradition was interrupted during industrialization. Since 2020, specialized education has been provided. Interested individuals can download the application form from the Korean Cultural Heritage Artisans Association website and submit it via email or postal mail. Those who complete the course will receive a certificate of specialized education. For more details, please refer to the Korean Cultural Heritage Artisans Association website.
