[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] It has been reported that President Yoon Suk-yeol's first overseas trip since taking office may include attending the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit.
According to the presidential office on the 2nd, an advance inspection team composed of officials from the presidential office and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is currently checking the itinerary and other details on-site in Madrid, Spain, where the NATO summit will be held.
The NATO summit, scheduled for the 29th to 30th of this month, is expected to address security measures against Russia. Additionally, strengthening solidarity with Indo-Pacific countries, as well as issues concerning China and North Korea, may also be discussed. If President Yoon attends, there is a possibility of a series of summit meetings with NATO member country leaders, including a Korea-Japan summit and a Korea-US-Japan summit.
However, President Yoon's attendance has not been confirmed. The presidential office stated, "It is difficult to decide on attendance by mid-month."
