[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Seryeong] The Gyeongnam Election Commission urged voters in the nationwide simultaneous local elections on June 1 to mark only one candidate per ballot paper.
In local elections, voting is conducted in two rounds to improve accuracy and efficiency in vote management.
Voters first receive the ballot papers for governor, mayor·county head, superintendent of education, and the Changwon-si Uichang-gu National Assembly by-election, mark their choices, fold the papers, and place them in the ballot box.
In the second round, voters cast their votes for district provincial assembly members, city·county council members, proportional provincial assembly members, and proportional city·county council members.
Uncontested electoral districts do not receive the corresponding ballot papers, so the number of ballots may be fewer.
On the morning of the 1st, many voters the reporter met were curious about how many candidates they should vote for in the district basic council member elections, where 2 to 5 members are elected.
The Gyeongnam Election Commission explained that on any ballot paper, voters must mark only one candidate or party.
They also emphasized that due to voter mistakes such as incorrect stamping or damaging the ballot paper, voters cannot receive a new ballot paper.
