[Asia Economy Jeongeup=Reporter Lee Myunghwan] Dawonsys's new mainline electric train, set to replace the aging Mugunghwa and Saemaeul trains, has been unveiled.

On the 31st, Dawonsys announced that it held the 'Korail EMU-150 Mainline Electric Train Delivery Ceremony' at its Jeongeup factory in Jeollabuk-do, attended by officials from Korea Railroad Corporation (Korail), Korea Railroad Research Institute, Korea Railroad Vehicle Engineering, KRE&C, and other related organizations.

This event was organized to commemorate the initial delivery of the EMU-150 mainline electric train manufactured by Dawonsys. Attendees included National Assembly member Yoon Junbyung, Jeongeup Mayor Yoo Jinseop, Jeongeup City Council Vice Chairman Lee Sanggil, and Korail Technology and Safety Headquarters Director Yoo Youngsoo, among others.

The EMU-150 is expected to replace the existing power-concentrated trains, Saemaeul and Mugunghwa. It adopts a distributed power system with power units installed on each car, providing excellent traction and operational efficiency. It is also the first in Korea to apply a 'Condition-Based Maintenance System (CBM)' that can monitor key vehicle components in real time, enhancing proactive response capabilities and safety.

The EMU-150 has a maximum operating speed of 150 km/h and a design maximum speed of 165 km/h. It is planned to operate on seven lines: Gyeongbu Line, Honam Line, Jeolla Line, Gyeongjeon Line, Janghang Line, Donghae Line, and Jungang Line.

The EMU-150 mainline electric train project began in 2019 when Dawonsys first secured an order for 150 cars, followed by an additional 208 cars the same year, totaling 358 cars under delivery. The project scale amounts to approximately 594.2 billion KRW. Following the delivery of the initial trainset, sequential deliveries of the remaining contracted units will proceed in earnest.

At the event, Park Seonsun, Chairman of Dawonsys, said, "We are deeply moved and very pleased to deliver the EMU-150 mainline electric train, which will mark a milestone in the national railway," adding, "We will continue to contribute to railway development until the EMU-150, manufactured by Dawonsys, travels across the country and elevates the national brand name."

A Dawonsys official stated, "The EMU-150 project passed strict inspections based on the National Railway Safety Act standards, and we take great pride in having directly manufactured key core electronic components such as the propulsion control system with our own technology to complete the vehicle," adding, "We expect this to be an important turning point that expands the railway business, previously limited to urban rail, to include semi-high-speed trains, ushering in a new phase for the railway industry."
