Gangjin-gun, Runner-up in Soccer at the 61st Jeonnam Province Sports Festival

First Award Since Participation in Football Event at Jeonnam Sports Festival

[Gangjin=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-su] Gangjin-gun, Jeollanam-do, won the runner-up prize in the soccer competition of the 61st Jeollanam-do Sports Festival.

This award is significant as it is the first time Gangjin-gun has won a prize since participating in the soccer category of the Jeollanam-do Sports Festival.

The Gangjin-gun soccer team had participated in external matches for several years but struggled to win even one game. However, since the appointment of Park Sang-hyun as the representative of Gangjin Cheongja FC in April, they have been improving their skills through systematic training every week.

Additionally, for the competition, the Gangjin-gun Soccer Association and Gangjin Cheongja FC selected 18 players active in the K5 and K6 leagues and prepared for the past two months.

The Gangjin-gun soccer team showed overwhelming performance by consecutively defeating Gurye-gun and Yeongam-gun in the preliminaries, beating Hwasun-gun 3:1 in the quarterfinals, and Mokpo-si 4:1 in the semifinals to advance to the finals. On the last day of the competition at Palma Sports Complex in Suncheon-si, they had a close match against Suncheon-si but lost 0-1, securing the runner-up position.

Choi Hyuk, president of the Gangjin-gun Soccer Association, said, “I congratulate and thank our soccer juniors who worked hard to achieve this good result,” and added, “We will strive for the development and expansion of soccer in Gangjin-gun.”
