Geochang-gun Holds Emergency Comprehensive Measures Meeting to Prevent Drought Damage Emergency Comprehensive Measures Report Meeting on Drought Damage.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province held an emergency comprehensive countermeasure briefing on the 30th with officials from the county office and the Rural Development Administration to prevent early summer drought damage.

As the full-scale farming season begins, the briefing was held to prepare countermeasures following the Korea Meteorological Administration's forecast that the drought, which started in winter, will continue until June due to the rainfall over the past six months being about 57.8% of the 30-year average.

At the meeting, after a comprehensive report by the head of the Safety General Division, Acting Governor Kim Tae-hee presided over an inspection of key areas such as reservoir water levels, crop growth conditions, and local water supply volumes.

The county set the current situation at the "interest" (mild drought) stage according to drought response guidelines and weather forecasts announced by the Korea Meteorological Administration and the National Disaster Safety Research Institute, and decided to proactively operate a task force team to manage the situation at a level equivalent to the "caution" (moderate drought) stage.

They also discussed the urgent issue of the need for smooth agricultural water supply during the current rice planting season. The Rural Development Administration expressed its willingness to actively cooperate in supplying agricultural water.

Acting Governor Kim Tae-hee of Geochang-gun said, "As rice planting continues until the end of June, we will do our best to ensure there is no shortage of agricultural water supply," adding, "We will prepare support measures for agricultural water such as renting pumps, developing wells, and utilizing river water, as well as water-saving measures to prepare for shortages of domestic water."
