[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City announced on the 30th that it will officially launch the 2022 Dong-gu Manse (The World Created by Dong-gu Women) Gender Equality Village Project.

This project was carried out for the first time this year as part of the key projects for women-friendly cities to create a Dong-gu-style women and family-friendly village.

The "Dong-gu Manse Gender Equality Village" project aims to develop community activity capabilities based on gender sensitivity and to have residents solve gender equality issues on their own.

To this end, as a result of public recruitment in the fields of gender equality, economy, care, and safety, which directly affect the quality of life for women, 13 village communities (including overlapping administrative neighborhoods) with life-oriented gender equality issues were selected.

In the future, detailed projects will be carried out at the women's activity space "Gonggam Sudabang" in the Village Sarangchae and the Dong-gu Women's Hope Creation Center.

In the gender equality field, for four village communities, plans include ▲developing gender equality picture book lesson plans by age group by "Dorandoran Annyeong" ▲hosting a book concert inviting female authors and screening women's films by the gender equality reading discussion club "Kind Feminist" ▲and recording the lives and activities of Dong-gu women by "Gagahoho (家家戶戶)."

In the economic field, for eight village communities, plans include ▲eco-friendly knitting linked with the village workshop of "Jiwon Haengbok Tteugaeso" ▲Dongmyeong-dong's "Happy People" making Dongmyeong sandwiches together with youth and seniors ▲and developing handmade natural soaps capturing the village scenery by "Lavender Fragrance," which will be sold through the "Dong-gu Manse Flea Market."

In the care field, Jiwon 2-dong's "Kotaji (Elephant's Warm Local Care)" will utilize the Village Sarangchae to promote resident-led gap care such as child care. Basic education, gender equality village activist capacity building education, activity exchange, and documentation will also be conducted for the 13 selected village communities.

A Dong-gu official said, "Dong-gu, designated as the nation's first women-friendly city at the third stage, is promoting our own specialized gender equality policies," and added, "We will continue to do our best to create a Dong-gu-style women-friendly leading city where everyone, including women, can be happy through projects such as the gender equality village project."
