[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] Kwon Seong-dong, the floor leader of the People Power Party, criticized Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate running in the by-election for the National Assembly seat in Gyeyang-gu Eul, Incheon, and Song Young-gil, the Seoul mayoral candidate, on the 30th, saying "the Democratic Party's pathological lying election campaign is getting worse."
On the same day, Kwon held an election countermeasure meeting in Daejeon and said, "No one believes that large passenger planes can take off and land vertically."
He explained, "Candidate Lee proposed relocating Gimpo Airport and cited the opening of an era of vertical takeoff and landing for passenger planes as the basis," and pointed out, "The economic pathological lying about key currency that was mentioned during the last presidential election has spread to the transportation sector."
Regarding Song Young-gil, the Seoul mayoral candidate, he criticized, "He uses the language of multi-level marketing." Kwon said, "He boldly claims that if he gives Seoul citizens 1 million won in Seoul-specific coins, it will jump to 2 or 3 million won," and asked, "Is this really the language of a responsible politician?" He also questioned, "What is the intention behind the successive public-led coin issuances?"
He continued, "The Democratic Party, having failed to deceive the world, now claims that the world deceived them," adding, "Candidate Lee said all the polling statistics were wrong, and Kim Min-seok, the co-chief of the Democratic Party's election committee, threatened that polling companies should be regulated."
Kwon emphasized, "The more politicians use such language, the more politics becomes a caricature and the public's disgust with politics deepens," and raised his voice, saying, "No matter how urgent the election is, promises that can be called promises must be made."
