[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunju Lee] Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul, said on the 29th, "Gyeyang-gu has only given way for national projects such as the Airport Railroad and Airport Expressway," adding, "We will relocate Gimpo Airport, which is the cause of noise and underdevelopment, to complete the development of the western metropolitan area."
On the same day, at an event announcing the extension pledge of Seoul Subway Line 9 to Gyeyang, Lee stated, "Due to Gimpo Airport, land is being left idle because of height restrictions and development restriction zones."
Lee said, "If Gimpo Airport is relocated and integrated with Incheon Airport, the Yeongjong Free Economic Zone can significantly expand the scale of the airport economic zone," adding, "If the express service of the Airport Railroad is promptly promoted, access from Seoul to Incheon can be faster."
He also said, "I request the extension of Seoul Line 9 contract and the formation of a committee to promote the relocation of Gimpo Airport," and added, "If you appoint Lee Jae-myung as a worker of the promotion committee, I will ensure it is done firmly as I have done so far."
Meanwhile, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, held a Central Election Countermeasures Committee meeting in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, on the same day, criticizing, "The Democratic Party continues to throw out incoherent pledges," and "The recent pledge related to the relocation of Gimpo Airport shows the Democratic Party's fragmented identity itself." He also proposed a debate with Lee Jae-myung.
