[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Hyun-joo] On the 29th, Lee Jun-seok, leader of the People Power Party, held the Central Election Countermeasures Committee for the June 1 local elections in Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, and criticized the recent situation surrounding the Gimpo Airport relocation issue among the Democratic Party's local election candidates. He also reiterated a proposal for a debate to Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic candidate for Incheon Gyeyang-eul, who first announced the pledge.

At the meeting, Lee said, "The Democratic Party continues to throw out incoherent pledges," adding, "The recent pledge regarding the relocation of Gimpo Airport shows the Democratic Party's fragmented identity itself."

Lee first criticized, "Because there is no way to cover up the mistake of the airport relocation pledge, they even threw in the Jeju KTX." He explained, "Song Young-gil (Seoul mayoral candidate) and Lee Jae-myung (Incheon Gyeyang-eul candidate) say they will close Gimpo Airport and have Seoul citizens use Cheongju and Wonju airports," and "On the other hand, Oh Young-hoon (Jeju governor candidate) from the Democratic Party argued that such a pledge was an uncoordinated reckless move." He continued, "Kim Dong-yeon (Gyeonggi governor candidate) says the functions of Seongnam Seoul Airport should be moved to Gimpo," and sarcastically added, "No matter how you analyze it, at least two out of the four are liars. It's a nonsense talk festival."

Lee said, "Even after this, when our party criticizes the inappropriateness of the airport relocation pledge, the Democratic Party criticizes us for dividing the people with our pledges," and rebutted, "Their audacity knows no bounds; this is proof that the party is fragmented."

He urged Yoon Ho-jung, chairman of the Democratic Party's Emergency Response Committee, to clarify the party's position on the Gimpo Airport relocation. Lee said, "In such fragmented pledges, the party leadership must take the lead," adding, "If the Emergency Response Committee shirks responsibility, it is acting irresponsibly toward the people and proving that the party lacks the ability to manage local administration."

Lee proposed a public debate to candidate Lee Jae-myung. He said, "Candidate Lee boldly announced the pledge, but when I proposed an unlimited debate on this issue, he remained silent," adding, "I am willing to debate at a time and place designated by Candidate Lee. Likewise, the moderator can also be chosen by Candidate Lee. Even Kim Eo-jun is fine." He also said, "Candidate Lee is both a by-election candidate and the Democratic Party's overall standing election countermeasures committee chairman," and added, "As a committee chairman myself, I propose this in hopes of creating a reasonable culture of resolving important party issues through debate."
