[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] U.S. President Joe Biden expressed sorrow on the 28th (local time) while mentioning the recent series of large-scale mass shootings, emphasizing that "we must firmly confront destructive forces."
According to Bloomberg and other outlets, President Biden referred to the Texas elementary school shooting that claimed the lives of 19 children and 2 teachers, totaling 21 victims, as well as the Buffalo, New York supermarket shooting that killed 10 Black people, during his commencement speech at the University of Delaware.
President Biden lamented, "There is too much violence. There is too much fear and sorrow," adding, "Too many innocent people have died in too many places." He said, "We cannot ban tragedy, but we can make America safer," emphasizing, "Now is the time for all Americans to join hands, raise their voices, and cooperate."
President Biden stated, "We must be more resolute in confronting these destructive forces," and added, "We will finally be able to do what is necessary to protect the lives of our citizens and children."
Vice President Kamala Harris attended the funeral of the Buffalo shooting victims with her husband on the same day, stating firmly that America is suffering from an 'epidemic of hate' and that war weapons have no place in civil society anywhere. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that minority communities do not live in fear and that people are not afraid to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult.
