[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] As the COVID-19 outbreak continues to decline, the number of new confirmed cases remains in the ten-thousand range.
According to Seoul City and other local governments on the 28th, from midnight to 9 p.m. nationwide across 17 cities and provinces, 12,333 people were confirmed positive for COVID-19. This is 1,516 fewer than the 13,849 cases reported at the same time the previous day. Compared to a week ago on the 21st (18,770 cases), it is 6,437 fewer.
This is the lowest number for a Saturday in 18 weeks since January 29 (13,592 cases).
Since there is still time until midnight when the count closes, the number of new confirmed cases announced on the 29th will increase somewhat, but it is expected to remain in the low ten-thousand range.
As of 9 p.m. on this day, new confirmed cases were 5,147 (41.7%) in the Seoul metropolitan area and 7,186 (58.3%) in non-metropolitan areas. By region, Gyeonggi had 2,718 cases, Seoul 2,018, Gyeongbuk 1,008, Gyeongnam 817, Daegu 774, Chungnam 605, Jeonbuk 520, Gangwon 468, Jeonnam 467, Chungbuk 457, Daejeon 446, Gwangju 415, Busan 414, Incheon 411, Ulsan 394, Jeju 261, and Sejong 140.
From the 22nd for one week, the daily new confirmed cases were 19,289 → 9,971 → 26,342 → 23,946 → 18,816 → 16,584 → 14,398, with an average daily number of 18,478 cases.
