[Asia Economy Reporter Moon Hyewon] Samsung Electronics recorded its highest monthly market share in the global smartphone market in five years last month.
According to a survey by market research firm Counterpoint Research on the 27th, Samsung Electronics ranked first in the global smartphone market last month with a 24% market share. This is the highest monthly share since April 2017 (25%).
Apple ranked second with 15%, and Xiaomi was third with 12%.
Counterpoint Research analyzed that while global smartphone sales in April decreased by 8% compared to the same month last year, Samsung Electronics' sales increased by 9%.
Samsung Electronics has held the top position worldwide for three consecutive months through last month, and in the Indian market, it ranked first in monthly market share for the first time since August 2020. However, specific market share figures for India were not disclosed.
Tarun Pathak, a researcher at Counterpoint Research, analyzed, "Strong sales of the premium Galaxy S22 series and the mid-to-low-end Galaxy A series drove the growth."
Although the Chinese smartphone market was sluggish, Samsung Electronics was less affected compared to other companies, as its market share in China was minimal at 0.7?0.8%.
Counterpoint Research also forecasted that Samsung Electronics will maintain its leading position in the global smartphone market in the second quarter of this year.
