Preparing Institutional Foundations and Developing Return Gifts of Agricultural, Fishery, and Specialty Products
[Jindo=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Jae-kyung] Jindo-gun, Jeollanam-do, has actively launched a promotional campaign to revitalize the ‘Hometown Love Donation System’ to be implemented from next year.
The ‘Hometown Love Donation System,’ which will be implemented from January next year, is a system where individuals who donate to local governments (such as their hometown) other than their registered address receive tax benefits and return gifts equivalent to a certain amount of the donation from the local government.
This system was established to foster a healthy donation culture and revitalize the local economy. The collected donations will be used for ▲supporting socially vulnerable groups and nurturing and protecting youth, ▲promoting culture, arts, and health of local residents, ▲supporting community welfare such as citizen participation and volunteer work, and is expected to help supplement the insufficient local finances.
The county plans to accelerate preparations by establishing a plan for the Hometown Love Donation System and will proceed step-by-step through collaboration with related departments, including enacting ordinances, setting up funds, developing return gifts, and forming a dedicated team.
In particular, to ensure the successful establishment of the system, Jindo-gun will focus all efforts on distinctive promotional marketing targeting residents in the metropolitan area and hometown associations, as well as developing return gifts using local agricultural and marine specialty products, implementing a differentiated promotional strategy from other regions.
A representative from the Tax Accounting Division of Jindo-gun stated, “We will do our best to establish a solid institutional foundation so that many donations can be collected and that the precious donations can greatly contribute to revitalizing the local economy.”
He added, “We will also do our best to ensure that the precious donations prepared for hometown development serve as a catalyst for local economic revitalization.”
Meanwhile, tax benefits will be fully applied for donations up to 100,000 KRW, and a 16.5% deduction will be applied for amounts exceeding 100,000 KRW. Return gifts will be provided within 30% of the donation amount.
