[Muan=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Oh Hwan-joo] Choi Ok-su, the Democratic Party candidate for Muan County Governor, has urged investigative authorities to immediately investigate the report on the "bribery conspiracy involving candidate Kim San and government procurement projects."
According to a report by a local media outlet on the 26th, on the 23rd, Muan County signed a contract worth 837 million KRW with a tenant company in the local agricultural and industrial complex. It was reported that 80 million KRW was delivered to both a county office executive and a close aide of candidate Kim San, with part of the money allegedly funneled into election funds.
In response, candidate Choi issued a statement today (27th), saying, "The process of the private contract was reported to and directed by candidate Kim, and all these details have been confirmed through recorded transcripts."
He added, "This issue reveals the deeply rooted malpractice of chronic construction corruption," emphasizing, "Investigative authorities must promptly launch an investigation to uncover the substantive facts and impose strict punishment."
Meanwhile, at 2 p.m. today (27th), a complaint demanding an immediate investigation into candidate Kim San's bribery conspiracy related to private contracts was filed at the Civil Complaints Office of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency.
The 35 Muan residents who filed the complaint condemned candidate Kim's aide corruption and bribery conspiracy, stating that thorough investigations are necessary to restore Muan's honor and dignity.
