[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Duyul] Busan Port Authority (BPA) has published the "2021 Busan Port Container Cargo Handling and Transportation Statistics," which compiles major statistics on container cargo at Busan Port and transportation statistics of major domestic and international ports.
Last year, Busan Port handled a record-high container volume of 22.71 million TEU and 443 million tons in cargo tonnage, solidifying its status as the number one port in Korea, the second largest transshipment port in the world, and the seventh largest container port globally.
The Busan Port statistics book includes analysis results of Busan Port's container cargo volume using data from the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries' PORT-MIS (Shipping Port Logistics Information System), Busan Port Authority's chain portal system statistics, terminal operators, Korea Railroad Corporation, and KMI (Korea Maritime Institute).
The front part of the book uses infographics to help the general public easily understand the statistical information.
New content such as the cargo volume trends since the opening of Busan Port and the regional distribution of export-import cargo at Busan Port and nationwide ports has also been added.
The statistics book is composed of four parts. Part 1, "Major Statistics of Busan Port," covers annual export-import and transshipment cargo handling performance and container handling performance by country and region at Busan Port.
Part 2, "Major Status of Busan Port," includes the status of Busan Port's quay facilities, new port development plans, new port hinterland status, and Busan Port's regular routes (shipping lanes).
Part 3, "Major Statistics and Status of Nationwide Ports," consists of annual container cargo handling performance and status data of Busan Port and major ports nationwide.
Part 4, "Other Reference Materials," contains container cargo handling performance of major world ports, handling volumes of global terminal operators, fleet ownership status of global shipping companies, and container ship order status.
Kang Jun-seok, BPA President, said, "We will strive to provide more diverse and accurate data so that the Busan Port statistics book can be widely used as basic data for the development of Busan Port and the shipping port industry."
The statistics book can be downloaded in PDF format from the 'Busan Port Authority Statistics' KakaoTalk channel and the Busan Port Authority website under the menu 'Information Disclosure - Busan Port Statistics - Busan Port Statistics Book.'
