[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] The Citizens' Countermeasures Committee for the Hakdong and Hwajeong-dong Disasters issued a statement on the 13th correcting inaccuracies regarding allegations of illegal activities by Hyundai Development Company during the 'Gwangju Dong-gu Gyerim 2 District Redevelopment Project.'

The committee stated, "The area in question, where the allegations were raised, is land outside the complex that was donated for the purpose of creating parks and sidewalks during the redevelopment project," and added, "The company responsible for construction in this area was not Hyundai Development Company."

They continued, "It was inappropriate to raise issues without sufficiently verifying the contractor," and expressed, "We deeply apologize especially for the high-tone noise experienced by prospective residents."

Furthermore, they added, "The three or four reports received regarding waste disposal, if true, could have a critical impact on the health and safety of residents and nearby inhabitants, so we will verify the facts through the relevant authorities and take appropriate follow-up measures."
