[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] Gangneung Asan Hospital announced on the 27th that it was the only hospital in the Gangwon region to receive a Grade 1 rating in the "2nd Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Adequacy Evaluation" released by the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service.

Gangneung Asan Hospital scored a comprehensive score of 95.07 points, surpassing the overall hospital average (91.42 points) and the tertiary general hospital average (93.46 points).

The "NICU Adequacy Evaluation" was first conducted in 2018 to improve the treatment environment of NICUs and to enhance the safety of critically ill newborns during hospitalization and the quality of medical services through infection prevention activities related to medical care.

The second evaluation was conducted over six months from October 2020, targeting 84 medical institutions nationwide where NICU inpatient care occurred (44 tertiary general hospitals and 40 general hospitals).

The evaluation indicators included a total of 11 items such as ▲the ratio of specialized personnel, specialized equipment, and facilities in the NICU ▲appropriateness of treatment processes required for critically ill newborns ▲number of NICU beds ▲and the rate of NICU readmission within 48 hours.

Yoo Chang-sik, director of Gangneung Asan Hospital, stated, “We will make further efforts to become a hospital where patients are safe by continuously improving the NICU environment, expanding specialized medical staff, enhancing the quality of treatment processes, and conducting infection control activities.”
