[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Hyundai Motor Company announced on the 27th that from the 28th to the 29th (local time), three high-performance N brand models will participate in the ‘2022 N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race (ADAC TOTAL 24h Race)’ held at the N?rburgring circuit in Germany.
The ‘N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race’ is a competition where the vehicle that records the longest distance driven within 24 hours wins. The N?rburgring circuit, where the race is held, is approximately 25 km in total length and is known as the 'Green Hell' due to its narrow track width, severe elevation changes, and blind sharp curves, creating a harsh driving environment.
Because of this, the completion rate of the 24-hour endurance race is usually only in the 70% range. Last year, a total of 121 cars participated, of which only 99 successfully finished the race.
Hyundai Motor Company has succeeded in completing the race with all vehicles over the past six years. Last year, the Elantra N TCR (domestic name: Avante N TCR) won the TCR class.
This year, participating for the seventh time, Hyundai will enter the TCR class (front-wheel-drive touring race cars with engine displacement under 2000cc) with the ‘Elantra N TCR’ and ‘i30 N TCR’. In the VT2 class (race cars based on production cars with turbo engines under 2000cc displacement with minimal tuning), the i30 N Cup Car will compete to demonstrate excellent durability and driving performance.
Hyundai will operate a 24-hour live broadcast starting at 10:45 PM on the 28th through the 'Hyundai Driving Experience' website. Motorsport fans worldwide are expected to easily and enjoyably experience the N?rburgring 24-hour race regardless of time and place. There will also be detailed expert commentary, introductions to viewing points, and various events offering benefits.
Meanwhile, Hyundai is running the 'Dare to Dream' program this year. This new program offers motorsport fans, who have had great interest in the sport, an opportunity not only to watch the dream stage of the N?rburgring race but also to grow into actual racers. From the second half of this year, the ‘Hyundai Driving Experience’ will conduct step-by-step race driver training.
The ‘Hyundai Driving Experience’ started in 2016 and is currently operated in Korea and Europe. It is a program that allows driving experiences in various situations and with different vehicle types. The newly added Dare to Dream program, starting in the second half of this year, will be conducted mainly in Germany. Participants will be trained to debut in the ‘N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race’.
This year, an instructor from the ‘Hyundai Driving Experience’ will directly participate as a driver in the VT2 class of the ‘N?rburgring 24 Hours Endurance Race’. It is expected that this will vividly convey actual race experience and skills in the future 'Dare to Dream' program.
Til Vattenberg, Executive Director of Hyundai Motor N Brand Management Motorsport Division, said, "Motorsport is the optimal condition to test vehicle technology under extreme conditions," adding, "The durability verified in harsh races like N?rburgring is applied to production cars, enabling a leap to a higher level of technology."
