UN Security Council Fails to Pass Additional Sanctions on North Korea as China and Russia Exercise Veto Rights

[Asia Economy New York=Special Correspondent Joselgina] The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) failed to adopt additional sanctions against North Korea led by the United States on the 26th (local time).

On that day, the Security Council put to a vote a resolution that included reducing North Korea's oil import cap, but it was not passed due to vetoes by permanent members China and Russia.

For the resolution to be adopted, at least 9 of the 15 Security Council members must vote in favor, and none of the 5 permanent members may exercise a veto.
