[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] The Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters for African Swine Fever (ASF) announced on the 26th that ASF has occurred at a pig farm in Hongcheon-gun, Gangwon Province.

Currently, the headquarters has dispatched an initial quarantine team and an epidemiological investigation team to the farm to implement quarantine measures such as access control, disinfection, and epidemiological investigation.

According to the emergency action guidelines (SOP) to prevent the spread of ASF, all 1,500 pigs raised at this farm will be culled. In addition, urgent detailed inspections will be conducted at 15 pig farms in Hongcheon-gun, and clinical examinations will be carried out at pig farms throughout all cities and counties in Gangwon Province.

The authorities have issued a temporary movement suspension order for 48 hours from 6:30 p.m. on the 26th to 6:30 p.m. on the 28th for pig farms, slaughterhouses, and feed factories in the Gyeonggi and Gangwon regions.

Jung Hwang-geun, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters, plans to hold an emergency quarantine situation meeting at 10 p.m. on the same day with related agencies including the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Environment to assess the ASF outbreak situation and review future response measures.
