[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yukbong] Kim Gangjeong, the Democratic Party candidate for Bitgaram-dong Naju City Council, visited a compost factory in Yugok-ri near the Innovation City on the 26th. This place is considered one of the causes of the odor in Bitgaram-dong.
Naju Innovation City is one of the top 10 livestock odor complaint areas selected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs in 2020.
Candidate Kim said, "Many residents are complaining of discomfort due to the continuous odor," and promised active efforts to solve the Innovation City odor problem.
The background of the odor in Bitgaram-dong includes surrounding livestock farms and the compost factory.
As of March, there are about 2,000 registered livestock farms in Naju City, and about 220 farms operate within a 3km radius of the Innovation City.
Naju City has made many efforts to solve the odor problem, such as "reducing the number of farms through business closure compensation" and "installing and operating an odor monitoring system."
However, this problem is ongoing.
The compost factory operating in Yugok-ri, Bonghwang-myeon, near the Innovation City produces compost by mixing and fermenting animal carcasses and general livestock manure.
Nearby residents have continuously complained of suffering due to the odor generated here. Although the company invested in facility improvements, it was not a fundamental solution.
On this day, Candidate Kim inspected the factory, striving to identify the causes of the odor and pledged to solve the problem.
He vowed to resolve the fertilizer factory issue that hinders the residential environment of Bitgaram-dong by actively reviewing various measures such as operating an integrated odor control center and establishing a dedicated odor department within the city.
