Excellent QSS Activity Cases, Steel Mill Competitiveness Up... Pohang Steel Mill Holds First Half Innovation Performance Sharing Meeting

Announcement of 9 Outstanding Cases of Innovation in Safety and Environmental Fields

POSCO Pohang Steelworks held the first half innovation performance sharing meeting on the 25th and presented best practices in safety and environmental fields.

[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeojonggu] POSCO Pohang Steelworks held the 'First Half QSS Innovation Performance Sharing Meeting' on the 25th at the headquarters' main conference hall.

QSS is a POSCO-specific on-site innovation method that identifies and improves waste and risk factors occurring in the field.

This performance sharing meeting was prepared to share the excellent QSS innovation activities promoted at Pohang Steelworks in the first half of the year and to spread the innovation culture.

About 240 executives and employees from POSCO and partner companies attended the event, including Lee Baekhee, head of Pohang Steelworks, Gong Yunsik, chairman of the Partner Company Association, and Jo Byeongrip, vice chairman of the POSCO Labor Union.

Five departments including Pohang Steelworks 1 Hot Rolling Mill, Sintering Plant, 1 Wire Rod Mill 3FINEX Maintenance Section, and STS 4 Steelmaking Plant were recognized for their achievements in safety and environmental fields and selected as excellent cases.

The Sintering Plant attracted attention by reducing the risk of safety accidents for partner companies through improvements in coke crushing equipment, and the STS 4 Steelmaking Plant was cited as an excellent case of environmental improvement by reducing dust generation during steel product cutting.

In particular, the activities of young employees from the MZ generation stood out.

Lee Youngmin, a second-year employee, presented the improvement results of the coke crushing equipment at the Sintering Plant and promoted improvement activities as a team with seniors who have over 30 years of experience in the ironmaking equipment department.

Lee Baekhee, head of Pohang Steelworks, said, “I appreciate the efforts of employees who worked hard to lead innovation from the front lines of the field,” and added, “In the second half of the year, I hope you will take the lead in securing POSCO’s core competitiveness by focusing on on-site improvement activities, especially in safety and environmental fields.”

Pohang Steelworks plans to expand the innovation performance sharing meeting, which was held once a year, to twice a year starting this year, to quickly spread excellent innovation activity cases within the steelworks and strive to create a safer and cleaner workplace.
