Background of the No Gwan-gyu Condemnation Press Conference is the Democratic Party Regional Office Led by Female Politicians

Turning personal conversations into public outrage is just a low-level tactic using 'gender' for politics

Female politicians should be criticized for bringing up 'gender' without considering secondary harm

Background of the No Gwan-gyu Condemnation Press Conference is the Democratic Party Regional Office Led by Female Politicians

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] A phantom organization called ‘Women Who Love Suncheon-eul,’ centered on female city and provincial council candidates who received strategic or single-candidate nominations from National Assembly member So Byeong-cheol, held a press conference on the morning of the 26th demanding “Sexual harassment remarks, Noh Gwan-gyu must resign immediately.”

There were criticisms that the press conference, where reporters only took photos and left, was planned and directed by National Assembly member So Byeong-cheol’s office.

The email announcing the press conference was sent from So Byeong-cheol’s office, and on that day, Bo Ja-gwan Lee Chang-yong was seen leading the women at the forefront, catching reporters’ attention.

After a current Jeonnam provincial council member read the press statement, the reporters were busy dispersing without saying a word in response to questions, drawing protests from attending reporters who said, “Are you ignoring and exploiting the media?”

Criticism is rising that female politicians have no gender awareness, using ‘sex’ as a weapon in political acts.

They have been criticized for irresponsible behavior without gender awareness that their actions could cause secondary harm, and there are serious concerns about secondary damage as real names are being mentioned in public, with people saying “Who is it? They say it’s so-and-so.”

The dictionary definition of sexual harassment refers to words and actions related to sex that cause discomfort, humiliation, or disadvantages in employment to the other party.

A former Suncheon city council member, A, said, “Even if sexual expressions cause discomfort, if they occur in conversations with others rather than directly with the other party, they do not fall under the category of sexual harassment,” adding, “Isn’t it a bigger problem to record personal conversations and accuse them of sexual harassment, thereby creating a victim?”

In other words, just as there is a saying that it is acceptable to criticize the king when he is not present, it is pointed out that personal conversations should not be turned into public outrage, and there are concerns about secondary harm.

Journalist B said, “It would have been better if it was called just rude language,” adding, “It is regrettable that female politicians who do not even know what sexual harassment is are put forward, which seems to reflect the reality of women’s politics in Suncheon city.”

C, an executive of a women’s organization, commented on Facebook, “Isn’t this the Democratic Women’s Proportional Party?” and left a comment saying, “Sun·Women·General·Association is not swayed by politics.”

Meanwhile, the press conference was held following a report by an internet media outlet the previous day titled ‘Noh Gwan-gyu Suncheon mayoral candidate’s disparagement of women,’ demanding the immediate resignation of candidate Noh Gwan-gyu.
