[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Hwang Du-yeol] The recent public discussion regarding the floating Gadeok New Airport, proposed as a pledge for the upcoming June 1 local elections, is expanding into the private academic sector.

On the 27th, a scholarly debate featuring the country's top experts on the subject will be held. The debate will be broadcast live on YouTube for about 1 hour and 30 minutes by KNN and others.

The Thursday Academic Society and the Southeast Region Development Council will hold an expert academic debate titled "Is a Mega Floating Airport Possible?" on the 27th at 1:30 PM in the seminar room on the first floor of the main building at Dongmyung University.

President Jeon Ho-hwan of Dongmyung University will chair the session, and Shin Dong-sik, Chairman of Korea Maritime Technology (KOMAC), will present the main topic.

Experts including Dr. Kim Ga-ya, Dr. Eom Hang-seop, Professor Lee Doo-hyung, and Dr. Hong Sa-young will participate in the discussion.

Shin Dong-sik, Chairman of KOMAC, was the first Korean inspector at the UK Lloyd’s Register. During his tenure as Presidential Chief Secretary for Economic Affairs, he also led mid- to long-term development plans in steel, shipbuilding, petrochemicals, machinery, electronics, and science and technology sectors.

Chairman Shin graduated from Seoul National University’s Department of Naval Architecture and studied naval architecture at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and Durham University in the UK. He has served as chairman of the Special Maritime Administration Deliberation Committee and secretary-general of the Economic Science Deliberation Council.

He has received the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit, the March 1st Culture Award, the Presidential Citation (for foreign investment attraction), the Uam Award, and the Proud Alumni Award, among others.

Jeon Ho-hwan, President of Dongmyung University and leader of the Do-ing (Challenge·Experience·Practice) talent development university, has advocated for the “university-led growth theory” and new national wealth theories, emphasizing that innovation in universities through initiatives like the “Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Mega City” and the concept of Byeonjeok Tonggu (變則通久) to decentralize the Seoul metropolitan area’s unipolar system into a multipolar system will drive regional and national development. Recently, he has also proposed policies such as creating 10 Seoul-level universities.

The debate will be streamed live on YouTube for about 1 hour and 30 minutes by KNN and Sisa Imdang TV.

The Thursday Academic Society and Southeast Region Development Council are hosting and organizing the debate, with support from Busan Ilbo, International Newspaper, KNN, and Sisa Imdang TV.
