First Cabinet Meeting Held at Government Sejong Complex, "A New Feeling... Will Operate National Affairs in the Era of Local Autonomy"
[Asia Economy Reporter Baek Kyunghwan] On the 26th, President Yoon Seok-yeol stated at the first formal Cabinet meeting of the new administration, "All our citizens should enjoy fair opportunities regardless of the region they live in." By holding the Cabinet meeting in Sejong instead of Seoul, he expressed his commitment to regional balanced development policies. President Yoon emphasized, "This is the value of fairness that the new government aims for."
At 10 a.m. that day, President Yoon conveyed these remarks at the Cabinet meeting held at the Government Complex Sejong. He said, "It is a meaningful moment to hold the first Cabinet meeting in the Sejong City Cabinet meeting room."
At the meeting, President Yoon mentioned discussing the vision of the new government's local era in depth with Cabinet members. He explained, "The new government has announced that it will operate state affairs by embracing the local era," and "Among the six major national goals, one is to create a local era where it is good to live anywhere in the Republic of Korea."
In particular, President Yoon said, "All our citizens should enjoy fair opportunities regardless of the region they live in." He added, "This is also the value of fairness that the new government pursues," and emphasized, "The local era is also a solution to the population cliff, so mid- to long-term strategies are very important." He also called for active discussions among Cabinet members. President Yoon expressed, "I hope this will serve as an opportunity for everyone to understand the vision and insight on balanced development at the national level."
At the Cabinet meeting that day, the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Income Tax Act and regulations concerning the establishment and operation of the National Integration Committee were submitted. President Yoon mentioned the background of the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Income Tax Act, saying, "This is a temporary tax burden relief to stabilize the real estate market and improve national housing welfare." Regarding the National Integration Committee, he urged all ministries to actively cooperate with the newly launched committee. Additionally, President Yoon addressed the recent logistics warehouse fire, noting that such fires have been recurring, and instructed to accurately diagnose the causes of ignition during the construction or use of warehouses and to prepare effective measures to prevent recurrence.
Meanwhile, just before the Cabinet meeting, President Yoon nominated Park Soon-ae, former professor at Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration, as Minister of Education, and Kim Seung-hee, former member of the National Assembly, as Minister of Health and Welfare. Oh Yoo-kyung, former dean of the College of Pharmacy at Seoul National University, was also appointed as head of the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety. All three ministerial-level appointees nominated by President Yoon that day are women.
