The Third Operator of Ieum5G is SK Networks Service "Utilized in Digital Twin"

[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] SK Networks Service has become the third Ieum 5G operator following Naver Cloud and LG CNS.

The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 26th that the allocation of Ieum 5G frequencies and registration as a telecommunications service provider applied for by SK Networks Service have been completed.

Ieum 5G is a private communication network that allows businesses wishing to offer 5G convergence services to build their own 5G networks by utilizing 5G frequencies on a land or building unit basis.

SK Networks Service will establish Ieum 5G at the Central Changwon Factory, with a total floor area of 27,868㎡, scheduled to open in the first half of this year. The factory logistics will be automated through the operation of Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR). With digital twin-based management and control services, real-time monitoring and simulation of manufacturing processes will be possible, enabling a flexible production system.

The frequency bands applied for by SK Networks Service are 400 MHz bandwidth in the 28 GHz band (28.9?29.3 GHz) and 100 MHz bandwidth in the 4.7 GHz band (4.72?4.82 GHz). The usage period is three years until June 19, 2025, and the allocation fee is approximately 4.8 million KRW.

Taking this frequency allocation as an opportunity, SK Networks Service will launch digital twin services, introduce 5G convergence services across all industrial sectors, and promote the expansion of Ieum 5G.

The Ministry of Science and ICT reviewed the adequacy of SK Networks Service’s user protection plan and imposed conditions such as user protection measures. Registration as a telecommunications service provider holding line facilities for providing Ieum 5G services was also processed.

Hong Jin-bae, Director of the Network Policy Office at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, "Through this case of SK Networks Service, AI, Autonomous Mobile Robots, Internet-based resource sharing (cloud), and digital twin will be connected as one through Ieum 5G, and it is expected that 5G convergence services will be revitalized through such operators."
