Hwang Bo-seung-hee Receives Response Saying 'Did Not Express Intention to Resign'
[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Regarding the claim that former Minister of Justice Cho Kuk recently expressed his intention to resign from Seoul National University, Hwang Bo-seung-hee, a member of the People Power Party, refuted by stating, "We received an official document from Seoul National University saying there was no expression of resignation."
According to Hwang Bo-seung-hee's office on the 25th, on the 17th, the Academic Affairs Division of Seoul National University sent a response to Hwang's request to "submit related materials if Professor Cho Kuk expressed his intention to resign," stating, "We inform you that Professor Cho Kuk did not express his intention to resign to Seoul National University."
Earlier, former Minister Cho Kuk stated on his social media on the 27th of last month, "I expressed my intention to resign to Seoul National University in order not to burden the school and students."
He added, "However, Seoul National University did not accept my resignation because I was indicted," and explained, "The media has criticized me for maintaining my professorship and receiving a salary without giving lectures, but now I want to clarify."
He said, "It is current regulation to pay part of the salary to a suspended professor. I am not receiving illicit money, nor am I coveting that money," and added, "Seoul National University is expected to accept the resignation or impose disciplinary action after reviewing the court's ruling."
Meanwhile, Seoul National University officially responded in the afternoon of the same day, stating, "There has been no communication of Professor Cho Kuk's intention to resign."
