KOTRA Hosts 'Korean Entertainment Industry' Business Forum

[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] KOTRA announced that on the 26th, it held the 3rd ‘Business+ Forum’ together with the British Chamber of Commerce in Korea.

This forum was held under the theme of ‘Korea’s Entertainment Industry.’ About 50 expatriates from foreign companies and institutions operating in Korea attended, and the lectures discussed Korea’s entertainment business models, success cases, and business opportunities.

With Korea’s exports of content such as films and dramas exceeding 10 billion USD annually, attendees showed great interest in understanding the business models and capturing business opportunities.

Jae-won Ryu, Director of the Trade and Investment Data Division at KOTRA, explained, “We hope that foreign companies will identify the unique characteristics and success factors of Korea’s entertainment industry through this forum, discover business opportunities, and that business in the content sector will be revitalized through cooperation between our companies and foreign companies operating in Korea.”

The forum was attended by eight members of the British Parliament, including Julian Knight, Chair of the UK Parliament’s Culture, Media and Sport Committee, who listened to the current status of Korea’s entertainment industry and actively engaged with the participants. In particular, Chair Julian Knight delivered a keynote speech explaining how the UK grew into a global hub for the cultural content industry and shared his views on the future direction of the industry.

The Business+ Forum has been held monthly since March this year. Eighteen foreign chambers of commerce in Korea, which have signed education cooperation MOUs with KOTRA, are participating.
