On the 25th, Kosin University Gospel Hospital held a 'Cancer Pain Campaign' in the lobby on the first floor of the Jang Gi-ryeo Memorial Center for patients, caregivers, and visitors.


Cancer pain is a comprehensive term for the pain experienced by cancer patients and is a major factor in the decline of quality of life for many patients due to cancer.


It is severe pain caused by cancer. Pain arises from nerve compression or infiltration, obstruction, and tissue necrosis due to cancer progression.


The hospital explained that more than 90% of the pain that makes cancer patients suffer the most can be controlled.


Nevertheless, due to prejudice against narcotic analgesics, pain campaigns are being held at more than 60 institutions nationwide to overcome the difficulties in treatment.


This campaign, held under the theme "Cancer Pain, It Can Be Controlled," featured quizzes.


Through OX quizzes such as "Do narcotic analgesics cause addiction?" and "If you use strong painkillers early, will you have no medicine to use later?" the campaign informed about misconceptions and truths about pain and distributed pain information leaflets and promotional items.

Professor Jeong Won-gil of the Hospice Palliative Care Center also provides inpatient services for terminal cancer patients and their families.


Professor Jeong Won-gil said, "We provide holistic care services for terminal cancer patients and their families for various distressing symptoms including cancer pain," and added, "Let’s not give up or struggle alone with the disease and pain, but have confidence that we can overcome and conquer them together."


The nationwide campaign, which started in 2007, was established to deliver correct knowledge about cancer pain and encourage patients to actively express their pain.


Kosin University Hospital operates an ambulance together with the Ambulance Wish Foundation to fulfill the last outing wishes of terminal cancer patients.
