Among Bithumb Investors, 62.4% Are from the MZ Generation... Bitcoin Is the Top Investment Choice

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] In the first quarter of this year, the proportion of MZ generation investors using the domestic cryptocurrency exchange Bithumb reached 62.4%.


According to Bithumb on the 25th, the age group with the highest investment proportion was people in their 30s, accounting for 44.8%, followed by those in their 40s at 21.3%, 20s at 17.6%, 50s at 12.6%, and 60s and above at 3.7%. Compared to last year, the age groups with increased investment proportions were the 20s by 1.5 percentage points and the 30s by 11.9 percentage points, resulting in a 13.4 percentage point increase in the MZ generation's share.


The proportion of female investors also increased. Last year, the gender investment ratio was 82.8% male and 17.2% female, but in the first quarter of this year, it shifted to 59.8% male and 40.2% female, with the proportion of female investors increasing by 2.3 times.


Additionally, the most traded cryptocurrencies on Bithumb in the first quarter were Bitcoin, Ripple, and Ethereum, the same as last year. However, the investment proportions increased. Compared to the annual figures last year, the investment proportions in the first quarter of this year changed as follows: Bitcoin from 9.4% to 14.6%, Ripple from 7.5% to 10.1%, and Ethereum from 6.8% to 8.6%. The total investment proportion of these three major cryptocurrencies increased by 9.6 percentage points from 23.7% to 33.3%.

The MZ generation's investment ranking in the first quarter was Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Ripple. Compared to last year's investment proportions, Bitcoin increased from 8.0% to 16.3%, Ethereum from 5.3% to 9.0%, and Ripple from 5.7% to 7.6%. The total investment proportion in the three major cryptocurrencies by the MZ generation rose from 19.0% last year to 32.9% in the first quarter of this year, an increase of 13.9 percentage points, which is greater than the 9.6 percentage point increase across all age groups.


A Bithumb official stated, "The MZ generation's cryptocurrency investment tendencies are becoming more conservative and long-term," adding, "While the older generation's wealth accumulation methods focus on real estate and savings, the MZ generation recognizes cryptocurrencies as one of their major investment assets."
