Promotion of 2022 Living Environment Electromagnetic Wave Measurement Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] The Ministry of Science and ICT announced on the 25th that this year, the electromagnetic wave measurement service for living environments will be conducted at over 3,400 facilities, an increase of more than 37% compared to the previous year.
This year, the electromagnetic wave measurement service will be conducted at over 3,400 locations, including multi-use facilities and 5G-based convergence facilities. This includes 2,400 living environment sites and 1,000 5G convergence facilities. Last year, the service was conducted at 2,468 locations.
The Ministry of Science and ICT plans to operate the service as a demand-based visiting electromagnetic wave measurement service by establishing an online application portal. Applications will be available from the 26th on the Korea Radio Promotion Association’s ‘Electromagnetic Wave Safety Information’ website.
The Ministry also plans to focus on electromagnetic wave safety diagnostics for new industry environments such as Ieum 5G and smart factories, which are 5G-based convergence facilities, as well as electromagnetic wave measurement services for newly installed 5G residential and office spaces. Starting from July this year, a small electromagnetic wave measuring device rental service will be operated, allowing the public to directly check the electromagnetic wave intensity by mobile communication frequency bands, focusing on newly installed 5G residential and office spaces.
Choi Woo-hyuk, Director of the Radio Policy Bureau at the Ministry of Science and ICT, stated, “We plan to significantly expand the electromagnetic wave measurement service to alleviate concerns about electromagnetic waves in daily life that may arise during the acceleration of digital innovation,” adding, “We will transparently disclose the measurement results to the public to continuously secure public trust in electromagnetic wave safety.”
Meanwhile, anyone with questions or concerns about electromagnetic waves generated by various products used in daily life, such as home appliances and portable wireless devices, can apply year-round for electromagnetic wave measurement of living products on the National Radio Research Agency’s ‘Electromagnetic Waves in Daily Life’ website.
