[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Dong-hoon] POSCO announced on the 25th that it visited the sites of small and medium-sized suppliers to conduct 'fire prevention consulting' and took measures to reduce fire risks using its own fire safety experts.
On the previous day (24th), POSCO conducted fire prevention consulting organized by the Equipment and Materials Purchasing Office. The consulting targeted 10 companies among small and medium-sized suppliers with frequent hot work or handling flammable materials such as oil. Hot work refers to tasks that generate flames or sparks, such as welding, grinding, and drilling, or any work using equipment that can ignite combustible materials.
Employees from POSCO’s fire safety departments within the two steelworks, along with staff from the Equipment and Materials Purchasing Office, visited the suppliers to inspect fire response capabilities, firefighting equipment, and rescue facilities on site, and provided fire prevention education and improvement suggestions. Based on the four-day on-site diagnosis and feedback, the suppliers will independently implement improvements next month.
Kim Tae-eok, head of POSCO’s Equipment and Materials Purchasing Office, stated, "Recent consecutive fires in domestic industrial sites have increased anxiety among small and medium-sized suppliers. We believe that the safety of our suppliers is the safety of POSCO, and we will spare no effort to support fire prevention at our suppliers."
Choi Won-su, president of Bugang Special Industry and a recipient of this consulting, expressed his gratitude, saying, "With the help of POSCO’s fire safety experts, our employees have become more aware of fire risks, and we have established a fire prevention system. We deeply appreciate this."
Meanwhile, POSCO is conducting consulting in four major areas for small and medium-sized enterprises centered on the 'Win-Win Growth Support Group,' composed of experts from various fields within the company: ▲ Smart Factory construction ▲ ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) issue resolution ▲ Equipment and energy efficiency ▲ Introduction of future new technologies. Going forward, POSCO plans to utilize its own experts to support the competitiveness and sustainable management of small and medium-sized enterprises in various ways as part of its corporate citizenship initiative, 'Together with POSCO.'
