Gyeonggi-do Human Resources Development Institute to Host 'Korea-China Diplomatic Relations 30th Anniversary Seminar'

[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] An online seminar commemorating the 30th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations will be held in Gyeonggi Province.

The Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute announced on the 25th that it will jointly hold an online seminar with Shandong Academy of Governance in China at 3 p.m. on the 26th to review the history of exchanges between Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province and to find future economic cooperation measures in celebration of the 30th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations.

The seminar will be conducted in the form of presentations and discussions on cooperation measures between the two institutions, focusing on the impact of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) agreement on Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province and future development directions.

RCEP is a free trade agreement that unites the Asia-Pacific region as one, involving 15 countries including South Korea, China, Japan, the 10 ASEAN countries (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Australia, and New Zealand.

Starting with opening remarks by Jeon Jin-seok, Director of the Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute, and Xu Wen (徐聞), Executive Deputy Director of Shandong Academy of Governance, participants will watch a video covering the history of exchanges between the two institutions, followed by an introduction to the current status of exchanges between the two regions by Park In-seong, Head of the Foreign Affairs and Trade Division and Ajou Cooperation Team of Gyeonggi Province.

Next, for the keynote presentations, Professor Park Ki-cheol of Pyeongtaek University will speak on "Cooperation Measures for the Global Value Chain between Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province following the Conclusion of RCEP," and Professor Wang Dongpu (王東普) of Weihai Academy of Governance in Shandong will present on "The Significance of RCEP Conclusion and Economic Cooperation Measures between Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province."

After the keynote presentations, customs officer Kim Ju-bong of the Gyeonggi Northwest FTA Utilization Support Center and Associate Professor Dong Zhiqiang (董志强) of Yantai Academy of Governance in Shandong will explore future development plans through discussions and Q&A sessions.

The seminar can be watched live in real time by anyone via 'Social Broadcasting Live Gyeonggi (live.gg.go.kr),' with sequential Korean-Chinese interpretation provided.

Director Jeon Jin-seok said, "It is meaningful to conduct academic exchanges between local governments in this significant year marking the 30th anniversary of Korea-China diplomatic relations," adding, "We expect it will help form a long-term and friendly relationship between the two regions."

The Gyeonggi Human Resources Development Institute and Shandong Academy of Governance have continued non-face-to-face academic exchanges even after the outbreak of COVID-19. In November 2020, they held an online seminar on topics such as "Korea-China Exchange Cooperation Models and Development Directions under the Prolonged COVID-19 Situation," and in May and November of last year, they held online seminars on "Regional Economic Revitalization Policies of Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province" and "Directions and Practices for Reducing Carbon Emissions by Gyeonggi Province and Shandong Province," respectively.
