Defense Minister: "Anti-Russian Sentiment Growing Under Western Support"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Gyumin] Russia claimed that it had no choice but to conduct a special military operation to protect people from mass genocide and to guarantee Ukraine's nuclear weapons and neutral status.
According to TASS news agency on the 24th (local time), Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu made this statement at a video conference of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), a military security cooperation body led by Russia among former Soviet states.
Minister Shoigu asserted, "Under Western support, anti-Russian sentiment has developed within Ukrainian society," and added, "Not only the Russian language and Russian culture but also the shared history of the two countries have been persecuted."
He continued, "Those who did not agree with this were simply destroyed," and said, "For eight years, the Ukrainian government systematically bombed villages in the Donbas region, during which more than 14,000 people died and 33,000 were injured."
