Holding a Rally Urging Workforce Reinforcement
Criticizing Seoul City's 'Autocratic Administration'
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jun-yi] After Seoul City decided to resume late-night subway operations for the first time in two years as a public transportation measure following the lifting of social distancing, the subway labor union has expressed opposition.
On the morning of the 24th, the Seoul Metro Labor Union occupied part of the road next to Seoul City Hall and held a full-scale rally demanding the city halt the push for late-night extended operations and increase on-site personnel. Approximately 700 union members attended the event, according to police estimates.
At the rally, the union stated, "It has been less than three months since Seoul City decided to abolish late-night operations, and the ink on the agreement is not even dry yet," criticizing, "Flipping policies as easily as turning over one's hand is a typical example of 'arbitrary administration.'"
They continued, "Is it appropriate to recklessly decide like stretching a rubber band without personnel measures to handle the increased operations or safety measures to compensate for the reduced maintenance time?" and demanded, "Immediately stop the unilateral enforcement of extended operations."
