Andong City is deploying Gotaek experts to vacant hanok houses. These Gotaek managers are professionals trained in the historic Gotaek houses of the Andong area.
Andong City is promoting the ‘Gotaek Manager Training Project for the Specialization of the Gotaek Industry,’ which assigns managers to Gotaek houses such as public houses that have not been properly maintained in a timely manner, to develop them into new tourist destinations. They plan to recruit Gotaek managers by June 10.
The intention is to utilize the vacant Gotaek houses, which are difficult to manage, to remove the layers of time and transform them into new lodging experience spaces.
They plan to revive the cultural value of Gotaek houses by turning them into tourism resources through exhibitions, creation, arts, events, and to create jobs and generate profits.
The city plans to operate 2 to 3 Gotaek houses on a pilot basis this year and gradually expand. The Future Culture Foundation’s Gotaek Management Center is organizing a specialized training program to train Gotaek managers.
Managers who complete the training will be entrusted as honorary managers to manage the Gotaek houses.
The Gotaek manager will manage the Gotaek house while planning programs and attracting visitors. When tourists apply for lodging or experience programs, the manager will provide guidance, services, and follow-up management to understand customer needs.

An Andong City official said, “We plan to foster Gotaek manager tour guides who will induce package tourism and stay-type tourism using Gotaek houses as lodging bases and take charge of systematic customer management.”
