[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Junho] Dong-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, has launched a campaign to encourage voting ahead of the June 1 local elections.

On the 24th, Dong-gu announced that it will carry out promotional activities to encourage voting participation together with local grassroots organizations, related institutions, and village activists until election day.

They held a slogan idea contest for banners encouraging voting participation targeting district office employees and local residents, selecting about 20 creative and catchy phrases. These banners were displayed at 30 key locations such as apartment complexes and main roads.

Additionally, they are actively promoting voting participation online by sharing promotional materials through the mobile app ‘Dong-gu Doodream’ and local residents’ social networking services (SNS).

During the election period, voting guidance videos will be broadcast through apartment community TVs. On the early voting days, June 27-28, and on election day, July 1, announcements encouraging voting participation will be made through apartment management offices.

Consideration for socially vulnerable groups is also notable. In cooperation with the Gwangju Metropolitan City Election Commission, vehicles for transportation convenience will be operated to ensure that seniors and people with severe disabilities can vote without inconvenience.

From the 23rd, advance reservations are being accepted at the Gwangju Metropolitan City Transportation Support Center for the Disabled, focusing on local senior centers and welfare centers for the disabled.

Furthermore, official letters were sent to local companies and government offices requesting corporate cooperation to allow all workers to vote during the early voting period and on election day. Dong-gu’s promotional efforts to increase voter turnout will continue until election day.

A Dong-gu official said, “Every citizen’s precious vote is the most important right and responsibility that blossoms democracy,” adding, “We will spare no support or promotion to increase voter turnout from early voting to the main election.”

Meanwhile, early voting stations will be set up at 13 administrative welfare centers in the district from June 27 to 28, and a total of 36 polling stations will operate on the main election day.
