Jeong In-hwa, Gwangyang Mayor Candidate, Announces Cultural, Arts, and Tourism Policy Pledges


[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Heo Seon-sik] Jeong In-hwa, an independent candidate for mayor of Gwangyang, Jeonnam, announced cultural and artistic pledges on the 23rd to rebuild the old and cramped Gwangyang Culture and Arts Center and Gwangyang Cultural Center, which were established during the Gwangyang-gun era, and to establish the Gwangyang Culture and Tourism Foundation.


Candidate Jeong also stated plans to build a folk museum, create a literary village, renovate the area around the house preserving the posthumous works of Yun Dong-ju, restore Gwangyang Eupseong Fortress, Jungheung Fortress, Jinsang Fortress, Jinwol Bongam Fortress, and utilize them as historical awareness and tourism resources, as well as restore the Uiyang Munheon Collection to secure Gwangyang’s identity.


Candidate Jeong promised to activate various cultural and artistic education programs to satisfy the cultural and artistic desires of the youth, and to strengthen support for young cultural artists through continuous performance and exhibition activities.


As for tourism pledges, Candidate Jeong proposed revitalizing the Gwangyang City Tour, developing a coastal tourist complex linked to the Yi Sun-sin Bridge, developing a comprehensive tourism complex in the Seomjin River area, creating a cultural belt in Gwangyang-eup, restoring Okryongsa Temple and expanding the camellia forest plantation, and establishing tourist complexes linked to Baedo and Mangdeok Port.


Candidate Jeong said, “To make Gwangyang a tourist city where people enjoy visiting and staying, I will immediately establish a comprehensive tourism industry development plan upon taking office.” He added, “By creating a large-scale ecological garden in the Gwangyang-eup area, expanding the ongoing Gubongsan tourism complex, revitalizing food towns and night markets, and developing the Seomjin River comprehensive tourism complex, we will make Gwangyang the best tourist destination nationwide.”
