Installation of Collection Boxes at 9 Locations Including City Hall Starting June 1
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yeo Jong-gu] Yeongcheon City in Gyeongbuk Province is implementing an ice pack recycling project to reduce the rapidly increasing amount of ice pack waste caused by the spread of non-face-to-face grocery shopping culture.
The ice pack recycling project collects and cleans ice packs disposed of by residents so that they can be reused at demand sites such as traditional markets and food processing companies.
The project will start from the 1st of next month and will be carried out in cooperation with the Yeongcheon Community Self-Support Center.
The collection targets are gel-type ice packs that are not contaminated or damaged. Ice pack collection boxes will be installed at a total of nine locations including City Hall, Green Environment Center, each Dong Administrative Welfare Center, Yeongcheon Community Self-Support Center, and Hanshin The Hue Yeongcheon First.
Ice packs disposed of in the collection boxes will be transported to the Yeongcheon Community Self-Support Center, where they will undergo cleaning and disinfection processes. Small business owners and residents who need ice packs can visit the Yeongcheon Community Self-Support Center to receive them.
A Yeongcheon City official said, “Through this project, not only can environmental problems be improved, but by outsourcing cleaning and disinfection tasks to the Community Self-Support Center, jobs for low-income groups can also be created. We ask for the citizens’ great interest and participation.”
