Suwon City Provides 'Conflict of Interest Prevention Act' Training for Public Officials


[Asia Economy (Suwon) = Reporter Lee Young-gyu] Suwon City in Gyeonggi Province conducted education on the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for public officials.


On the 23rd, Suwon City announced on the 24th that Kim Seong-wan, a professor (Police Superintendent) at the Korea Coast Guard Education Institute, gave a lecture at the city hall auditorium under the theme "Understanding the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act for Fair Job Performance and Securing Public Trust," conducting education in a hybrid format of both in-person and online sessions.


In his lecture, Professor Kim explained, "The Code of Conduct for Public Officials imposes 'discretionary sanctions' (disciplinary penalties) if violated, but the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act is a mandatory provision, and violating the law can lead to dismissal (administrative penalties)." He also detailed the specific behavioral standards and cases under the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act.


He added, "As one of the measures to ensure fairness, fidelity, and desirable behavior in duties, it is necessary for expert groups to transparently establish standards they must pursue in the form of a public code of conduct."


A city official stated, "We expect that education on the Conflict of Interest Prevention Act will help create a fair and clean public service society," and added, "We will continue to conduct integrity education to raise the level of public officials' awareness of integrity and strive to spread an anti-corruption culture."
