[Seoul District News] Dongjak-gu ▲Violation of Political Neutrality by Public Officials ▲Laxity in Public Service Discipline ▲Passive Administration Special Inspection ▲Comprehensive Cleanup of Illegal Floating Advertisements ▲Streetlight Inspection Thorough Preparation Across Dongjak-gu for Local Elections
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] As the official campaign for the June 1 local elections has begun, Dongjak-gu (Mayor Lee Chang-woo) announced that it will take thorough measures such as inspecting public service discipline and conducting special crackdowns on illegal floating advertisements until election day.
First, the district will focus on inspecting violations of political neutrality by its public officials, including direct or indirect involvement in election campaigns, providing or leaking important documents or information to specific candidates, and using social network services (SNS) to support or defame specific parties or candidates.
They will also check for cases of lax discipline taking advantage of the chaotic election atmosphere, such as unauthorized absence during work hours, overtime irregularities, and improper receipt of travel expenses, as well as deliberate delays in handling civil complaints and passive administrative actions.
Additionally, since the 19th, the district has been conducting a comprehensive cleanup of illegal floating advertisements such as banners and flyers that spoil the streetscape throughout Dongjak-gu. (Photo)
Until election day, the district will rigorously crack down on banners posted without reporting to the district office according to the Outdoor Advertising Act, and banners without inspection marks attached as required by the Public Official Election Management Regulations, to create a fair election atmosphere. After the election, candidate campaign banners will be promptly removed to maintain a pleasant street environment.
Furthermore, streetlight inspections will be conducted to prevent accidents such as tipping caused by election banners inevitably attached to streetlight poles, as well as vehicle and personal injury accidents.
A district official said, "Ahead of the local elections, public officials must maintain political neutrality and avoid involvement in the elections," adding, "We will do our best to prevent any inconvenience to residents."
The district is also leading efforts to foster a clean and proactive public service culture by implementing anti-corruption policies such as conducting ‘Integrity and Active Administration Quizzes’ and ‘Self-Diagnosis of Integrity Levels’ for all employees, operating ‘Malgeumnuri Dongjaktok,’ a mobile anonymous corruption reporting channel using KakaoTalk open chat rooms, as well as running an ombudsman system and strengthening civil service through ‘Kindness Announcement Broadcasts’ every Monday morning.
